Local Sikhs celebrated Baisakhi, a major religious festival, on April 15 at the Merritt Sikh Temple. In a morning ceremony, members of the Merritt Sikh Society changed the Nishan Sahib, the triangular flag of Sikhism. On April 11, a Grade 5 and 6 class from Bench Elementary visited the temple to learn about the religion.

Watoto performs in front of a near-capacity Crossroads Community Church in Merritt Feb. 22. The choir, led by Sam Kimera, are a group of orphaned African children who tour the world singing and dancing as a means to raise money for villages in Africa. The show also included a video presentation of the struggles facing African families.
