Witnesses refuse to help police charge knife-wielding man

A knife-wielding man will likely get away with threatening people at the Valleyview Chevron on Monday morning because witnesses are refusing to co-operate with police.

At around 4:30 a.m. Monday, police received a report of a drunk man waving a knife at the 24-hour gas station and convenience store.

Police responded and found the man with the knife in his pocket. He was arrested without incident.

Plenty of people were in the vicinity at the time of the suspect's threats, but that won't help the police investigation.

"There were several people in the area who unfortunately did not wish to provide the police with information or provide a statement," said RCMP Sgt. Fran Bethell.

"So then it makes it very difficult for us if people aren't willing to provide a statement be willing to go to court to be able to lay charges."
