Roger Sloan of Merritt is one of 28 players who shot even-par 72 in Thursday's opening round of the Canadian Tour's Dakota Dunes Casino Open in Saskatoon.
Sloan had an up-and-down day, making seven pars, six birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey five, on the par-3 17th hole. He and 27 others are tied for 62nd heading into today's second round, after which the field will be cut to the top-70 and ties.
Michael Gligic of Burlington, Ont., leads after posting seven-under 65 on Thursday, with Matt Hoffman of Thornhill, Ont., a stroke behind in second.

Alyssa Human of Kamloops shot 81 on Thursday and slipped to 34th overall at B.C. Golf's Women's Amateur Championship in Christina Lake.
Human went into the third round tied for 28th after shooting 81-76 in her first two rounds. She struggled to a 43 on the front nine Thursday, finishing with a triple-bogey six on No. 9, before bogeying her final two holes for a back-nine 38.
Richmond's Christine Wong will take a huge lead into the final round today. Wong fired a bogey-free 65 on Thursday and now sits at 12-under 204, leaving her seven strokes ahead of two players.
Soo-Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam shot 71 to get to 211 and in a tie for second, while Kelowna's Megan Osland made five front-nine birdies en route to a 66 and a 54-hole total of 211.
Kelowna's Madison Kapchinsky, who won the Kamloops City Junior Golf Championship last month, shot 75 on Thursday and is tied for 10th at 221.
