Thompson-Nicola Regional District board directors want to open the lines of communication with CN Rail.
The board voted Thursday to send a letter to the railway inviting it to have a representative meet to discuss issues of interest to both sides.
More precisely, the TNRD wants to talk about invasive plants, weed control and wildfires.
The board received a letter from CN in response to one it had sent last year. In it, it mentioned CN’s vegetation management strategies.
TNRD chair Randy Murray said the purpose of the regional district’s first letter was to open a dialogue with CN. He suggested another letter be sent out asking if the railway would be willing to partner with the TNRD on invasive plant control.
Area A director Jessoa Lightfoot said some interaction with the railroad would be good.
“I look at the fact they want to reduce incidence of accidents and fires. Historically, the tracks between Jackass and Ashcroft have had a number of fires almost every season,” she said.
The board voted in favour of writing back to CN to request a meeting.
