The Union of British Columbia Municipalities has voted in favour of a resolution calling for a moratorium on the BC government's smart meter program.
The vote, 55.1 to 44.9 in favour, was announced today from the UBCM convention in Vancouver.
"UBCM members endorsed a resolution to have a moratorium on mandatory installation of wireless smart meters until the major issues and problems identified regarding wireless smart meters are independently assessed and acceptable alternatives can be made available at no added cost to the consumer," said Merritt mayor Susan Roline.
"This is a good move and should now give some leeway to have the questions and concerns answered by another body besides Hydro."
Roline and four members of city council attended the UBCM convention this week.
