RCMP lay charges against Robert Bishop

Robert Finley Bishop will face a judge later today to hear his fate in relation to eight counts of assault police have laid against him.

RCMP have charged Bishop, 34, with numerous assaults against girlfriend Brandy Deann Cowell, which allegedly occurred between Aug. 1 and Sept. 16, the duration of Cowell's "unusual" absence from Merritt.

"Brandy Cowell is reported to be in good physical health," said Cons. Tracy Dunsmore in an RCMP press release issued minutes ago.

"Bishop will appear before a judge in Nanaimo, B.C. later today, and the Crown is requesting that he be returned to Kamloops next week."

Merritt RCMP continue their investigation and haven't ruled out the possibility of more charges.
