Merritt RCMP responded to a total of 90 files over the Labour Day long weekend.
Police responded to five assaults, 13 drunk in public disturbances, 16 motor vehicle accidents, three vehicle thefts, four impaired driving calls, five mischief and theft calls under $5,000, and numerous public files.
RCMP say flash hail storms North of Merritt kept police busy on highways over the weekend. There were a dozen or more vehicles that went off the road, according to police. Several occupants were taken to the Nicola Valley Health Centre and others taken to Kamloops. All injuries were non-life threatening.
Police responded to a serious accident 15 km south of Merritt Saturday afternoon.
“A male driver and his female passenger, from the Lower Mainland, went off road and flipped their vehicle several times,” said RCMP Const. Tracy Dunsmore in a press release.
The male driver was flown to Royal Inland Hospital with severe head injuries and remains in critical condition. The passenger was treated for minor injuries.
