Man facing impaired driving charges

A crash victim is facing the possibility of having his leg amputated following a collision in Merritt on Aug. 21.

Merritt RCMP say a man has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm in relation to the accident that occurred just after 7 p.m. near the Coldwater Hotel.

The accused, whose name has not been released, allegedly struck a motorcycle driven by West Law of Merritt.

“The driver of the motorbike that was hit suffered injuries to his left leg and foot,” said Const. Tracy Dunsmore Monday.

“He had a broken femur and tailbone, and had a severed left ankle.”

On Aug. 27, Law was transported by helicopter to Vancouver to have further surgery on his ankle.

“They may have to amputate,” said Dunsmore.

The accused is scheduled to make his first court appearance in October.

Some members of the community are asking for public contributions in support of Law’s recovery. They can be made at Interior Savings Credit Union in Merritt.

Additionally, the Grand Pub and Grill will hold a fundraiser for the Robyn Grebliunas family, in support of Law, on Sept. 22.
