Helpful Merrittonians provided comfort

Dear Editor:
A couple of weeks ago, we had the misfortune of the truck breaking down at the first chain-up area outside of Merritt. But the good fortune was meeting the most wonderful and accommodating people. Steve, from a local taxi company, was just awesome, knowing he was going on an outing with his wife. He was so helpful. He not only came and got us, but when difficulties with the company credit card and the truck repair's debit machine not working, he stepped up and paid for the repairs and saw to it that we made the bank machine, bought the tools needed, got a cold drink, and got safely back to the truck or so he thought. After doing what he thought was a complete repair, Denis found more problems and ended up unhooking the trailer, so we headed back to the shop.
The staff checked out what we needed and we had to wait until morning to have them fix it. We were very fortunate to be able to stay in the back of the shop in the truck. Using all of the funds we had available to us, it was refreshing to use the facilities and have coffee with such a friendly bunch, first thing in the morning. The mechanic was there bright and early to fix the truck for us. We were on our way before lunch. Taking with us a great feeling, the respect and the generosity of people in your small town was overwhelming. We have told so many our story and find very few who have had the treatment we received. A big thank you to all.
We will be back to visit and check in on those who helped us and to look around your town.
