Dear Editor:
Re: the Merritt News poll question, "Should the City of Merritt ban pit bulls?"
Absolutely not! I have never heard of such a silly thing in all my life. How many times does it have to be said that these dogs are not born this way? Someone has taught this breed of dog that their behaviour is acceptable, when it is not. That is usually why you hear about the owner being attacked by the dog who was taught to attack. I am a pit bull owner and I have had my dog for 3.5 years and never has he had a moment of aggression where a human being was involved. He has a great personality and is excellent with children. All he wants out of life is a warm place to sleep, with food in his bowl and a place to swim every now and then, and I am truly tired of constantly looking over my shoulder because someone who is not educated or thinks they know more about my dog than I do, playing the scared role of mean dog. Well he is not. If I have to spend the rest of my life getting the message out there that pit bulls are not bad dogs, then, people, be prepared to hear me.
