Biker accidents abound

Two unfortunate motorcyclists were the apparent victims of two crashes in the Merritt area on Saturday and Monday.

One of the bikers was exiting the Coldwater Hotel parking lot in downtown Merritt on Saturday evening shortly after 7 p.m. when a pickup truck driving into the parking lot allegedly struck the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to the Nicola Valley Health Centre, where he was first examined and then transported to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops for surgery.

On Monday, another motorcyclist was allegedly travelling on the Coquihalla Connector to Kelowna when a vehicle that was changing lanes to pass another vehicle struck the motorcycle, which was already in the left lane. The biker's fate was unknown as of press time.
