One-way idea another of City's blunders

Dear Editor,

I fully support the proposal for one-way streets in downtown Merritt. What motorist hasn't experienced the traffic snarls during rush hour? We should immediately undertake a full environmental impact study. Perhaps the mayor and some councillors could be sent to Europe where they could study traffic patterns in some of the well known cities. The one way streets may be expensive but we can always raise taxes because as we all know, property taxes and municipal fees are so very, very low. Or, we could do away with some services. For instance, the city thinks that that it is a good idea to have all 5,000 households drive back and forth to the recycling centre—why not do the same for grabage pick-up? The ultimate solution though is to change over to left side driving (like in the U.K). But to avoid confusion it could be phased in—cars on the left, but trucks and horse trailers could remain on the right.
