Dear Editor,
When the wild roses are in bloom, it's time to visit Nicola Lake and fill one's reel with tasty Kokanee.
Last year, 2009, the Kokanee stock was decimated.
Due to low water at spawning grounds, the eggs were not laid or laid in lesser numbers.
The spawn was very poor. The Kokanee population plummeted.
This year, 2010, I hear anglers mention that caught Kokanee are small, 20 centimetres (eight inches) or less.
I've released eight fish due to small size.
With a two-year life cycle, give the fish a chance to spawn and recover. Please, a request to all anglers, leave the Kokanee go. One fish caught equals more or less 1,500 eggs that have no chance to grow into fish.
Please leave the Kokanee alone. Thank you.
