Dear Editor:
City Council has to reach out to the community and the community needs to get more involved in the decisions that council votes on.
We don't need a one-way street in Merritt.
I know that I would avoid that street or the area which would require me to drive further than I normally would.
And the banners? $17,000 for that.
Look from the ground up. There is an abundance of paper, plastic, and cigarette butts.
Why not butt out the butts by encouraging residents to dispose of them responsibly? Do you know that the toxins from the cigarette butts can seep into the ground water? You just have to stop and think of the consequences.
$17,000 can go towards a defibrillator for the arena, fire department, or the Aquatic Centre.
Besides, the banners are a summer theme, not a fall/winter event. Merritt's peak tourism season is in the Summer.
Where are the City's priorties?
Attracting and encouraging new businesses to reduce the tax burden to the residences of Merritt would be greatly appreciated.
Doesn't it make sense to have jobs and tax base source from a business instead of relying on the residents of Merritt?
Your thoughts?
