Smooth sailing at regatta despite windy weather

A racer makes his way through a choppy Nicola Lake Sunday afternoon during a 46-person race held by the Kamloops Sailing Association.

Strong winds on Nicola Lake were not powerful enough to knock down the enthusiasm of sailors Sunday at the B.C. Laser Masters and Youth Championships.

Participants, aged seven to 77, braved 25-knot winds in the two-day event featuring four grueling races Sunday.

“All participants were exhilarated and exhausted at the same time,” stated Kamloops Sailing Association regatta co-chair Trevor Owen, adding there were 46 boats in the regatta with participants from Kamloops, the Lower Mainland, Victoria, the Okanagan, and Brazil.
