Merritt loses ultrasound eqipment to Kamloops

Following a review of the Merritt Ultrasound Service, Interior Health has decided to transfer and consolidate the service with the operations at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The ultrasound equipment will be relocated to Kamloops on July 20, and will be utilized at RIH, starting on Aug. 3.

The equipment had been used on a limited basis due to ongoing challenges, according to Interior Health.

"Instead of the few days of service we were able to piece together each month in Merritt, this valuable piece of equipment will be used on a full-time basis at Royal Inland Hospital," said health service director, Dan Fitch, in a memorandum.

"Subsequently, (it) will enhance and expand access for the larger regional population."
