The British Columbia Lung Association elected Richie Gage, a resident of Merritt, to their Board of Directors at the organization’s Annual General Meeting in Vancouver June 10.
Gage has been a volunteer with the British Columbia Lung Association since 1981. In June 2007, Gage was awarded the Canadian Lung Association Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is the Lung Association’s highest award given to a volunteer.
The BC Lung Association strives to improve lung health across B.C. through research, education, and support for people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema and chronic bronchitis).
More than $1.1 million was allocated by the board to go towards training for medical professionals in BC and medical research grants, as well as an additional $4.3 million towards health education programs.
