This weekend the seventh annual Merritt Walk of Stars Gala will raise money for the opening of the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Hall of Honour and Museum.
Among the star-studded line up scheduled for this weekend are such artists as Beverley Mahood, The Higgins, Gord Bamford, Ridley Bent, Charlie Major, Kenny Hess, AJ Wentworth, and many more.
Local musicians, Tammy Weymouth and Stuart Emslie, will also play at the event.
Acting as master of ceremonies for the event will be Country Music Television’s Casey Clarke.
This year’s gala will have a slightly different feel to it.
Instead of a sit-down dinner, guests will be offered a more portable form of nourishment—appetizers.
“There will be a little more mingling we hope,” said Ron Sanders, president of the Merritt Walk of Stars Society.
The money raised at this weekend’s gala will go towards the development and construction of the CCMA Hall of Honour and Museum.
“We hope we’ll make $10,000 maybe,” said Sanders.
The project is still in the developmental stages, but Sanders said he hopes the hall will be open by Labour Day weekend.
“The plans are being drawn up right now,” said Sanders.
With tickets from previous years selling out, Sanders said he is sure the weekend will be a success.
“We’re not sold out quite yet,” said Sanders.
“But we’re close—I’m sure it’s going to be wonderful.”
The main event will take place this Saturday at the Civic Centre with the doors opening at 5:30 pm.
On Sunday, the celebrity golf tournament will be held at the Sagebrush Golf Course.
