Rodeo
Four Merritt students took prizes in the B.C. High School Rodeo and the B.C Junior High School Rodeos which were held this past weekend in Williams Lake.
At the high school level, Joe Roberson placed first in steer wrestling and second in saddle bronc, Amy Pozzobon came first in barrels, and Morgan Fosbery placed second in goat tying.
In the junior high competition, Fallon Fosbery won first place in Barrels.

Hockey
The Merritt Centennials' head coach, Luke Pierce, has been busy recruiting for this season's team.
“It's just been a lot of recruiting—traveling around B.C. watching hockey,” said Pierce.
“We've got a pretty good core of guys that can return, but we've still got lots of recruiting going on.”
The Centennial's next training camp starts on August 23.

Lacrosse
Three local lacrosse teams packed up their gear and their game faces for a trip to the Okanagan on Sunday.
The Century 21 peewees played a close match against their opponents, the Shuswap Outlaws, early in the day. That game ended in a 4 to 4 tie.
The peewees played a second match that evening against the North Okanagan 2. The tired Merritt squad fell behind early and lost the game 11 to 1.
The Merritt Mountain Towing Midgets competed in a tight match against the Outlaws. That game also ended with the score tied at 7 to 7.
The Contain-It bantams fell to the Outlaws 10 to 4, despite an impressive second and third period performance.
On Monday, the Royal Lepage novices traveled to Kamloops to defeat their opponents 9 to 3.

Boys Rugby
The Merritt Secondary School senior boys rugby teams played two games last week and earned their first win.
On Tuesday, the Panthers fell to the Norkam Saints 39 to 15, but defeated the Sahali Sabres on Thursday by a score of 37 to 12.
The boys suffered a loss this Tuesday against the first place Brocklehurst Broncs.
The Panthers will close out their season at home against the Sahali Sabres next Tuesday and then traveling on Thursday to start the play-offs.

Girls Rugby
The MSS Lady Panthers won their fifth match last week against Penticton Secondary. The girls won that game 37 to 0, improving on their already perfect season.
The girls played their first play-off game at home last night against Fulton from Vernon. The score was not in before the Merritt News' deadline.

Girls Soccer
The MSS girls soccer squad won at home last Wednesday against the visiting Barriere Secondary team. The Panthers were able to find the net repeatedly and won the game 7 to 0.
On Monday evening, MSS traveled to St. Anne's with hopes of a repeat of last Wednesday's performance, but the St. Anne's Crusaders were able to score two late goals to fasten the win 5 to 1.
