If you grow it, make it or bake it, you can sell it at the farmer’s market.
Merritt’s farmer’s market is getting ready for its tenth year, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 15 in the parking lot behind the Royal Bank.
The markets annual general meeting was held last Wednesday, and the board of directors have all assumed the same roles as last year.
Lucas Handley will continue as president, Julia D’ Souza is treasurer, Millie Mitchell will act as secretary, with Maggie Anderson and Doug Wyatt-Purden acting as directors.
“Everything is in line and we are ready to operate as normal,” says Isobel Vere, Nicola Valley Farmer’s Market manager.
Interior health regulations apply to all vendors who wish to sell any food items and certain products do require a special permit.
All products sold have been through a stringent vetting process according to Vere.
“We just want to get more people out and more vendors participating,” says Handley.
Some items that market patrons can expect to find are: jams, jellies, soaps, vegetables, fruits and homemade baking.
Spring features plenty of vegetables and bedding plants and, as the growing season progresses new items steadily become available culminating with the fall harvest and the end of the market at Thanksgiving.
“This year we are trying to get musicians to come and entertain while the market is going on as well,” says Vere.
Anyone wishing to become a vendor is asked to contact Vere.
“Every year we are getting more people coming out,” says Vere.
“Yet, we still get people saying they didn’t know there was a farmers market in Merritt.”
