The last kernel has popped and the numbers have been tallied as to which film has won this year’s people’s choice award.
The Nicola Valley Film Society screened its last selection of the season on Monday, Cairo Time, in front of another capacity crowd.
Society board member Cathy Starr says she has been very happy with the turn out for their films.
“We have many regulars returning every film,” says Starr.
“But we get a lot of new people coming out as well.”
Despite some technical difficulties this season the viewing public have been gracious and supportive of the Society's efforts to share quality films with its members, says Starr.
Before entering the films, patrons were given a slip of paper with the numbers 1-5 in which they were asked to rate how they felt about the movie.
The vote totals were out of 500 and based on the percentage of votes a film received with 5 being the highest mark.
This year’s People’s Choice Awards go to: 1. Departures (Feb.) 469 votes 2. Tell No One (Jan.) 447 votes, 3. The Necessities of Life (Sept.) 437 votes 4. Is Anybody There (Nov.) 368 votes, 5. Fifty Dead Men Walking (Oct.) 357 votes 6. Cairo Time (Mar.) 323 votes.
Last year's recipient was a film called “Young at Heart” which received 475 votes.
This year’s winner “Departures” was the 2009 Academy Award winner for best foreign film.
The film society had 220 members this year and is also seeking additional board members to help with its film selection for next year.
