For the first time in eleven years Merritt’s Midget Rep boys are competing in the Midget Tier 3 B.C. Hockey Championship in Juan de Fuca.
The championships were held here last year and the event was so well done they have been asked to host it again.
The Juan de Fuca Midget B’s are the host team, and fought their way through a tough series on their way to winning the Vancouver Island zone, said manager Lucy-Ann Smith.
There will be teams coming from all over the province to compete in the tournament, which ran from March 8 to 11.
The games were held at the Bear Mountain Arena and Juan de Fuca Arena.
Merritt is in a pool with West Vancouver, Cranbrook, Juan de Fuca and Dawson Creek.
The other pool consists of Rossland/Trail, Terrace, 100 Mile House and Kerry Park.
The quality of the hockey played was of the highest calibre said Smith.
Merritt’s Midget boys are grateful to all of the support they have received from friends and family and especially to all of the local businesses that stepped up and sponsored the team so that they could afford to travel to Vancouver Island for this tournament.
