Monday night's fashion show was the fruition of two months work by Merritt Secondary student council.

Student models walked the runway wearing fashions contributed from local businesses in an effort to raise money for victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.

The first of what is anticipated to be an annual event brought in over $900 and was attended by about 120 people.

Russ Wiley, M.S.S's social studies teacher MCed the event and students from the high school acted as models.

Two of the runway models, Olivia Schmidt and Erica Kabotoff, were also recruited to feature fashions for younger women.

“There were lots of nerves but the kids settled into it and delivered,” says teacher Lindsay DeVisser.

“Dave Berezen, the drama teacher, was a huge help with the lighting and stage setup.”

The event was hosted in M.S.S's multi media room and served the dual purpose of showcasing the schools diversity to the public, says DeVisser.

“Students were wanting to reach out to the victims of the Haiti earthquake and were also wanting to put on a fashion show,” says DeVisser.

This was the second event hosted by M.S.S students for Haiti relief.

On February 17, the students also hosted a pancake breakfast that brought in about $700 as well.
