Trafficker busted

A Surrey man is facing charges after police found a large quantity of drugs and money after executing a search warrant in Merritt last Friday.

Matthew Scott Stewart, 26, was arrested on Feb. 26 and has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police had warrants to search two units of an apartment complex on Chapman Street.

Police recovered a large amount of drugs, money and a sawed off 303 rifle in the raid.

Due to the proximity to the high school the RCMP will request a harsher penalty be imposed, as the suspect was arrested in a city designated drug free zone, when sentencing is considered.

Stewart is scheduled to appear in court June 1 and further charges are pending.
