Merritt's Trackers Sportswear Midget Rep hockey team is continuing the momentum they had during an exceptional regular season, right into the playoffs.
The Trackers beat the Kelowna Rockets in their first round of playoff action, beating the Rockets in front of their home crowd at the Rutland Arena on Feb. 5.
“I am feeling good about our team,” says Joe Quewezance, head coach for the Trackers.
“If we continue to play like we did against Kelowna, we have an excellent chance of winning.”
The Midgets were tied with both Kelowna and South Okanagan for first through out the season, so beating Kelowna in the first round of play offs was particularly sweet.
The Trackers beat Kelowna 6-4 in front of a hometown crowd to advance to the second round of the playoffs in Osoyoos on Sunday.
Sunday's game against South Okanagan did not go as well though with the Trackers in Osoyoos 6-3.
“We just didn't play well as a group,” says Quewezance.
“They took advantage of us early and we just never recovered.”
Quewezance says he is confident his team still has what it takes to the finals.
“We have a week to practice and regain our intensity and focus,” Quewezance added.
“And next Sunday we will have the home team advantage, which always makes a difference.”
The second game in the series will be played on Saturday Feb. 20 at Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
If the Tracker's win Saturday's game the series final will be held the following day on Sunday Feb. 21 at 12:45 p.m. at the Sun Bowl Arena in Osoyoos.
The winners of this series will advance into the provincial finals.
