Relay leaves great memories

Dear Editor:

The Olympic Torch has come and gone and we’re left with but a few great memories. The torch warmed the hearts of many of us as we saw Rusty Brewer run with the torch through the crowd and then ignite the cauldron. Her words rang especially true for me when she was asked what thoughts she might want to share with everyone after her experience – “give back to your community by volunteering” is what she said.
I definitely agree - and I experienced it through the last few weeks while looking for volunteers to help create the Torch celebration here in Merritt. I’d like to thank each of the volunteers who gave their free time and energy to make Saturday’s show such a success. And a big thank you to the thousands who showed up to cheer on all that the Torch represents.

Shelley Sanders,
Committee Chair
