The Merritt Centennials are hammering towards the playoffs and are unwilling to let go of their fifth place standing.
Friday’s game against Penticton was a hard fought loss for the Cents going down to the Vees 8-2.
“Cole would be the first to tell you he didn’t have his head in the game,” says head coach Luke Pierce.
“We got some energy for the two goals but we needed some saves.”
The Cents had an outstanding win against Salmon Arm on Sun. beating the Silverbacks 10-2 in front of a home crowd.
“We combined to push even though we were up,” says Luke Pierce head coach for the Centennials.
“Hopefully it is a confidence booster for our offense, our whole team played as good as we’ve seen in awhile.”
Tuesday night’s game against the Nanaimo Clippers was the closest of the three games; unfortunately the Centennials were unable to pull it off and succumbed to the Clippers 4-2.
Overall the team played well getting a lot of shots on net in a very physical game with good defense.
The Centennials gained seven points over the last three games and are looking forward to going into the playoffs with their team playing better than they have in a long time.
Merritt plays their next game Friday night at home against Vernon starting at 7:30 p.m.
