For most of us, the thought of getting up on stage and performing for a crowd would be the stuff of nightmares, but not so for Cameron Snee, 11, who will be performing the national anthem at Voght Park when the torch comes to town this Saturday.
“As long as it is organized and I am prepared, I rarely get stage fright,” says Snee.
“I sent in the audition tape in September and we received the confirmation letter in October so I have had time to get prepared.”
In essence Snee has been preparing for this since he was four, when he first began taking violin lessons.
He then started taking piano and singing lessons but does not favour one over the other.
“I like singing classical songs but one of my favourites to sing is ‘All Star' by Smash Mouth.”
“I don't care for opera because you have to sing in Italian.”
Snee is a Grade 6 student in Mr. Kanigan's class at Bench Elementary.
When Snee grows up he hopes to be a composer and an animal trainer.
“I am also writing a book of fantasy fiction and I would like to have it published,” he says.
Snee is excited to be singing in front of friends and family alike and is really looking forward to watching the alpine and slalom skiing during the upcoming Olympics.
“But the winter sport I most enjoy is having snowball fights with my friends.”
The Olympic Torch is scheduled to arrive in Merritt on Feb. 6 at 7:00 p.m. and the ceremony will be held in Voght Park.
