The weekend was eventful for the Merritt Centennials with three games played while on the road.
The Cents got off to a slow start against the Williams Lake Timberwolves, winning the game 7-3 despite exhibiting some bad habits.
“We didn’t play up to our potential but still managed to get the win,” said Centennials head coach Luke Pierce.
The less than stellar performance of the previous night was carried into Saturday night’s game against the Prince George Spruce Kings, resulting in an 11-3 blowout in the Spruce Kings' favour.
“It was one of those nights where the guys just were not in sync,” says Pierce.
“Prince George still has a strong core of guys, who put in the effort for their fans.”
By Sunday afternoon's game, the hard lessons of the previous night seemed to take hold.
The Cents played a focused and aggressive game in Quesnel, putting in a 6-3 win against the Millionaires.
“We played one of our most important games of the weekend, and we really came together as a team," said Pierce.
"This was our best effort in awhile,” he added.
The weekend’s four-point gain gives the Cents 40 points in 50 games and puts them in a dead heat with Quesnel for fifth place.
The Centennials play a home game against Penticton Friday night against an always-tough Vee’s squad.
“We have to make sure that our offence is strong and that we keep our focus against Penticton,” says Pierce.
