The Kelowna Spartans beat the Kamloops Krusaders 6-2 at Sunday's final, taking first place in the Merritt Minor Hockey Association's Atom Development Tournament.
According to tournament organizer and team Manager, Christina Robertson, the weekend was a great success.
“The parents chipped in and did their duties and our raffle table was really busy as well,” said Robertson.
Merritt's Jr. Cents rallied from a slow start winning the last two of the four games they played over the weekend, giving them a fifth place finish out of eight teams.
“This tournament let the boy's play a majority of teams they have not faced before and allows for an intensive weekend of learning and fun,” said assistant coach Trent Dolgolpol.
For Coach Scott Robertson it is the team building and camaraderie that is developed over the course of the weekend that is of utmost importance.
“The kids have as much fun off the ice as on it during these kinds of events and because they are not league games the focus really can be about fun,” said Robertson.
The tournament took place at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena and Shulus.
The next tournament will be held in Osoyoos, Feb. 26-27.
The next regular season game will be next weekend.
