QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Q & A with Centennials coach Luke Pierce

How is the team looking this year?

So far we are looking good. The guys are working hard as a group on and off the ice, learning how to win and build on the momentum.

Have improvements been made on offence this year?

Some of our mature players like Dustin Johnson, who has 26 goals and can be a premier scorer in this league when he wants to be, have really stepped up and younger players like Jeff Jones are really contributing as well.

As the team stands now, what are the main improvements that need to be made?

Developing a team identity as a physically hard working group and defensively limiting the chances we give up.

Do you have any specific strategies for your power plays?

We keep our power play stuff to fairly basic set type of play. When they are strong on the basics it gives the guys a chance to think for themselves.

How competitive has the team been this year?

Very competitive at times, not so much at others. It is feeling a lot more consistent on our competitiveness and our work ethic is strong. We have been in every game.

Any predictions on where you will finish in the conference?

I think we have a good chance of finishing fifth and that will allow us to have a good chance of advancing through the first round.

What can fans expect for the remainder of the season?

They have seen lately we are a team that doesn’t give up and puts in an honest effort every night.

What’s the atmosphere in the dressing room right now?

They are a very tight knit group and they all enjoy being in Merritt. Overall they are a very positive group to work with.

How are you feeling about goaltending?

Both of our goalies are very young but have done a very good job giving us a chance to win every night.

Final Comments

I feel there is a very bright future here, not only for the remainder of this season, but for the next few years. We have a strong core of players with which to continue to build a competitive team.
