Outside, the snow was piling up, but the sun was shining on the Capital soundstage, as international reggae star Mystic Bowie shot his new music video.
With local actresses and a film crew from Kelowna, Bowie came back to Iron Mountain after playing here two weeks ago.
He is shooting a video for the song “Nevah Kiss and Tell,” from his new CD of the same name.
“Merritt really struck me as a beautiful town and when I walked into this amazing venue I knew I was going to shoot the video here,” Bowie said.
Bowie had originally planned to shoot the video in Kelowna, instead he brought videographer and director Jason Woodford of Crosswoods Productions here.
“This space lends itself very well to video production and technically is a fantastic venue,” explained Woodford.
“Rolie and Stewart (Iron Mountain Music owners Rolie Wood and Stuart Emslie) have done an amazing job.”
Born Fitzroy Alexander Campbell in Maroon Town, a descendant of the Maroon tribe-the only remaining unified tribe in Jamaica- he was given his tribal name, Mystic Bowie, by elders based on powers they sensed in him.
“I wanted this video to represent my life on the road - it would not have been fitting to have made this in Jamaica,” Bowie said with a smile.
“I meet so many beautiful women of all cultures and I especially feel a kinship with aboriginal people.”
By the time he was seven years old, he was performing regularly for the Jamaican Tourist Board all over the island.
Apart from his highly successful solo career, Bowie is also the lead singer for the funky new wave band the Tom Tom Club, founded by ex-Talking Heads members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth.
Bowie definitely plans to play Merritt again and says, “I may even buy a home in B.C.”
“I really love it here, especially Merritt.”
