A Thousand Clowns will not be marching through Merritt anytime before the new year due to some casting setbacks and weak ticket sales.
The show's producer, Jim Bruce, says the show will be postponed to sometime in January and says tickets will be refunded or they will be honoured at the rescheduled show.
“We'd come up with a much better production if we postponed it,” said Bruce.
Bruce postponed the show after two cast members resigned and other members were expressing concerns with scheduling.
The show will be without cast members Rollie Woods and Rachel Drew due to schedule conflicts.
Bruce will takeover Woods' role as Albert Munson and auditions are being held for the part of Amie Burns.
“It meant someone learning a part within one week which proved to be difficult,” said Bruce of trying to prepare for the scheduled December 10 opening at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall.
Mil Juricic takes over as director of the show so that Bruce can dedicate more time to developing his new role as Munson.
Also contributing to the postponement of A Thousand Clowns was the lack of ticket sales.
Bruce says people in town have too many other obligations this month, especially with Christmas parties.
A Thousand Clowns will go ahead with the main character, Murray Burns, played by Alex Grebenyuk, as well as the supporting cast played by: Sarah Hyde, Brian Snee, and Lin Sherwood.
Bruce's play is an adaption of the original American theatrical comedy, written by Herb Gardiner, but with a slight Canadian twist.
Bruce says the show is a comedy but with some very serious social issues wrapped up in it.
